About The Archway Tavern

A Victorian building right on the Archway roundabout, with records of a pub on this junction since the 18th century and a strong Irish and musical tradition.

At the junction where Highgate Hill begins, there are records of a pub on this exact spot since the 18th century, though the current building dates from the late 19th. The Archway Tavern was for decades a meeting point for the local Irish community, and its fame took off when The Kinks chose it for the cover of their album Muswell Hillbillies (1971). After a closure and a refurbishment, it now also works as a folk music venue.
