About Canton Arms
A locally listed Italianate corner pub on South Lambeth Road, opened as a gastropub in 2010 by chefs from the Anchor and Hope and now a Top 50 Gastropubs regular.
The Canton Arms occupies a locally listed inter-war corner building, its stuccoed Italianate elevations and cast-iron interior columns still intact, on South Lambeth Road in Stockwell. It opened as a gastropub in 2010 under chef Trish Hilferty and Charlie Bousfield, both alumni of the Anchor and Hope in Waterloo, and has kept a similar formula ever since: serious modern British cooking served in a room that still reads as a proper pub rather than a restaurant. It has been a regular on the Top 50 Gastropubs list and was named Hardens' Best London Pub in 2021, a rare double of critical respect and genuine neighbourhood use.
