About The Gladstone Arms
A small independent free house on quiet Lant Street named after William Gladstone, known for live music most nights and a popular curry menu.
Tucked away on Lant Street — a residential backstreet where Dickens himself once lodged as a boy — the Gladstone Arms (universally known as 'the Glad') is a determinedly unpolished, independently run pub built around music rather than décor. Bands and DJs play most nights in the small back room, the walls are papered with old gig posters and pub ephemera, and there's a modest roof terrace for when the room downstairs gets too loud. It has built a strong following for its curry nights, an unusual pairing with the cask ale and craft keg on offer, and remains one of the few genuinely independent pubs left in the immediate Borough area rather than part of a managed chain.
