About The Great North Wood
A traditional two-floor Victorian pub by West Norwood station, formerly the Norwood Hotel, named after the ancient Great North Wood that once covered this part of south London.
The Great North Wood occupies a traditional two-floor Victorian building right by West Norwood station, previously known as the Norwood Hotel before an extensive refurbishment and rebrand. Its name recalls the ancient Great North Wood, the large tract of woodland that once covered this whole stretch of south London and gave Norwood its own name in turn. Family-friendly and geared towards real ale and a modern kitchen, it has become something of a flagship for West Norwood's ongoing pub revival, a neighbourhood that spent years with relatively few decent options for a proper pint.
