About The Ledger Building
A Grade I-listed former warehouse at West India Quay, built in the 1820s to service the docks, converted by Wetherspoon into a large pub that keeps the original cast-iron columns and vaulted brick interior.
The Ledger Building forms part of the historic warehouse terrace at West India Quay, built in the 1820s during the peak years of the West India Docks to store sugar, rum and other imported goods, and it holds Grade I listed status as one of the most architecturally significant surviving dock warehouses in London. Wetherspoon's conversion has kept the building's original cast-iron columns and heavy vaulted brick ceilings largely exposed, giving the pub a genuinely monumental interior that stands in deliberate contrast to the glass towers of Canary Wharf rising immediately behind it. It trades on the chain's usual formula of a long cask ale list and low, fixed prices, drawing heavy lunchtime and after-work trade from the surrounding office towers precisely because it offers a cheaper alternative to Canary Wharf's more expensive bars, while the warehouse setting itself, overlooking the historic dock basin and the Docklands Light Railway, remains one of the more striking backdrops of any Wetherspoon pub in London.
