About The Old Nun's Head

A prominent mock-Tudor pub overlooking Nunhead Green, run by Laine Pub Company, combining a gastropub kitchen with a large function space.

The Old Nun's Head takes its name from a long-standing (if unverifiable) local legend that a beheaded nun's head was once displayed nearby, a story that has stuck to this spot through several rebuilds. The current mock-Tudor building dominates one side of Nunhead Green and is now run by Laine Pub Company, a South London and Brighton-based operator known for taking on characterful sites, which has invested in the kitchen and events side of the business. It functions as both a proper local for the Green and a destination gastropub, with regular quiz nights and a beer garden that catches the evening sun.
