About Prince of Wales

A corner pub on the leafy Georgian expanse of Cleaver Square, once a Richardson-gang haunt in the 1960s, now stylishly updated for a mixed crowd of politicos and square residents.

The Prince of Wales sits on a corner of Cleaver Square, one of Kennington's most handsome Georgian set pieces and, thanks to the area's closeness to Parliament and the Home Office, a pub that has long drawn MPs and journalists alongside its residential regulars. In the 1960s it had a rather different reputation as a favoured haunt of the Richardson gang, rivals to the Krays south of the river. A recent renovation brought curated art and a sharper drinks list without losing the square's genteel, village-like calm, and it now functions as both a serious local and a destination worth the walk from Kennington tube.
