About Shaftesbury Tavern
A Victorian corner pub dated 1897, whose largely intact bar-back, etched glass and former billiard-room skylight earn it a place on CAMRA's national inventory.
A plaque dates the Shaftesbury Tavern to 1897, and much of what was built then survives: an L-shaped Victorian bar-back, etched and frosted windows lettered with the pub's name, tiled walls in the old vestibule and a round-ended skylight over what was once the billiard room. CAMRA gives the interior one star as a pub of special national historic interest. The pub was restored in 2014 by Remarkable Restaurants, which also owns the Salisbury on Green Lanes, and is run today by Remarkable Pubs. There is a covered front patio, dogs are welcome, families can eat in until 9pm and a quiz runs on Tuesdays.
