About Swan, Sudbury
An independent free house on Harrow Road in Sudbury, formerly the Sudbury Inn, with a pub recorded on the site since 1786 and a real fireplace at its heart.
There has been a pub on this Harrow Road site since 1786, when it operated as the Sudbury Inn under Clutterbuck's Brewery before later taking the Swan name it carries today. It keeps things deliberately basic: a single bar with a real fireplace, a pool table, a dartboard and a garden, alongside sports screens for Sky and TNT coverage, rather than any gastropub ambitions. Its position near Sudbury & Harrow Road station and on several bus routes keeps it ticking over as a straightforward local, one of the few Sudbury pubs to have kept a continuous pub history running back into the 18th century.
