About The Griffin

A historic Whetstone pub with inter-war character and a strong cask ale line-up.

The Griffin has kept its inter-war bones largely intact on Whetstone’s High Road, a rare survivor of unspoilt pub architecture on a stretch that’s seen plenty of change. It’s known locally as a serious cask house — Adnams Ghost Ship, Fuller’s London Pride, St Austell Tribute and Wells Bombardier all make regular appearances — and it’s named, like the area itself, for the whetstone said to have sharpened swords before the Battle of Barnet.

On tap

A rotating cask line-up: Adnams Ghost Ship, Fuller’s London Pride, St Austell Tribute, Wells Bombardier and guests.
