About The Rake

A tiny, independently run beer specialist bar in Borough Market, spun out of the Utobeer stall, with no fixed beer list and a cult following.

Opened in 2006 by the team behind the Utobeer stall in Borough Market, the Rake is a genuinely minuscule pub — standing room for maybe thirty people, spilling onto benches outside when the weather allows — that punches enormously above its size. It keeps no permanent beer list: four handpumps and around eighteen keg lines are constantly rotated through UK and international breweries, so a regular might never drink the same beer twice. It was one of the first places in London to take craft beer seriously as a retail proposition rather than a novelty, and it remains independently run rather than tied to a pub company, trading on the strength of its buying and the passing footfall of Borough Market.
