About The Washington
A corner pub built around 1865, with a protected Victorian façade and interior, at the commercial heart of Belsize Park.
Built around 1865 by local developer Daniel Tidey on the corner of England's Lane and Eton Avenue, the Washington is one of Belsize Park's most recognisable Grade II listed pubs, with a curved tiled façade and worked woodwork that has barely changed in a century and a half. It's now part of Castle Pubs, the characterful-pub brand within the Mitchells & Butlers group, which has kept much of the original woodwork and interiors while revamping it as a neighbourhood gastropub. Its location, halfway between Belsize Park and Primrose Hill, makes it a regular meeting point for locals before or after a walk on Primrose Hill. It keeps the feel of a classic corner pub despite its updated food offer.
On tap
Rotating casks and craft draught beers, plus a wine and cocktail list built for a gastropub crowd.
Food
Modern British gastropub cooking, with updated classics and a seasonal menu.
