About White Hart, Whitechapel
A traditional corner pub at the junction of Whitechapel Road and Mile End Road, run by the independent Hertfordshire brewer McMullen & Sons.
Standing at the point where Whitechapel Road tips into Mile End Road, the White Hart occupies one of the district's most heavily trafficked corners, a stone's throw from the Royal London Hospital and the old Whitechapel Bell Foundry site. It is run by McMullen & Sons, the family brewer based in Hertford that has supplied its own cask ales to London pubs since the 18th century, and the pub keeps a straightforward, unfussy traditional-boozer format rather than chasing a gastropub makeover. Its position on the direct route between the City, Whitechapel Market and the university buildings around Queen Mary makes it a reliable stop for market traders, hospital staff finishing a shift and students alike, with screens for football and a straightforward menu backing up the cask ale on the bar. It is one of the more workmanlike survivors on a stretch of road that has otherwise seen heavy turnover.
