About Windermere

A Grade II listed pub built in 1938-39 for a new middle-class housing estate around South Kenton station, its red-brick, Dutch-gabled exterior and original three-bar Art Deco interior still largely intact.

The Windermere was built in 1938-39 by Courage Brewery to serve the new suburban estate rising around South Kenton station in the last years of Metro-land expansion, and its large, red-brick, Dutch-gabled exterior remains one of the most distinctive pieces of inter-war pub architecture in Brent. Inside, three separate bars keep much of their original wall panelling, bar counters and wavy-corniced bar-backs, and the saloon bar's fireplace surround carries decorative windmill tiles beneath a vintage Courage mirror featuring the brewery's cockerel and clock, the fireplace's gabled top even echoing the shape of the building's exterior. CAMRA rates it a three-star Real Heritage Pub of national significance, and it still functions as a genuine community local, run independently with Fuller's London Pride on the bar and regular quiz nights and live entertainment.
