About The Morpeth Arms
Built in 1845 for warders of the long-demolished Millbank Prison, this Thames-side Young's pub looks out directly at the MI6 building and keeps a surviving prison-era corridor below.
The Morpeth Arms was built in 1845 to serve staff of Millbank Prison, the vast, now-vanished penitentiary that once stood where Tate Britain sits today; a section of tunnel connecting to the old prison reputedly survives in the cellar, and staff and regulars alike swear the pub is haunted by a former inmate. Its position on Millbank gives unbroken Thames views directly across to the SIS Building — the real-life home of MI6 — an irony not lost on the pub's tourist trade.
On tap
Young's cask ales, well suited to a long riverside session.
Food
A proper gastropub menu, elevated slightly above standard pub fare.
