About Old Fountain

An independent free house just off City Road, run by the Durrant family since 1964, with a changing cask line-up and a rooftop terrace.

The Old Fountain has been in the Durrant family since 1964, first as tenants of Whitbread and, from 2007, as owners. The pub is usually dated to about 1750, although the earliest licensee on record is from the 1830s. Inside it is a single bar on two levels, with darts and a rooftop terrace, and dogs are welcome. There is no fixed beer list, so the cask taps change regularly, and the pub is listed as an Asset of Community Value.

On tap

A rotating cask line-up (Five Points, Iron Pier and Oakham have all appeared), plus keg beers, local bottles and a changing real cider.

Food

Nepalese food from the Laughing Yak kitchen.
