About The Pride of Spitalfields
A small, packed backstreet pub tucked down Heneage Street just off Brick Lane, its walls covered floor to ceiling in rugby league photographs, and a longstanding cat-in-residence.
Round the corner from the curry houses and vintage stalls of Brick Lane, the Pride of Spitalfields occupies a single small, low-ceilinged room on the quiet residential Heneage Street, and has resisted the wider transformation of the surrounding streets almost entirely. Every inch of wall space carries framed photographs, largely rugby league memorabilia built up by past landlords, giving the interior a lived-in, cluttered warmth that regulars treat as part of the furniture. It has long kept a pub cat prowling the bar, and its small size means it fills up fast on weekend evenings with market-day visitors spilling over from Brick Lane and Sunday's Backyard Market, alongside a core of long-term locals who treat it as a refuge from the crowds outside. There is no website and no food menu, just cask ale, a jukebox and a genuinely old-East-End atmosphere increasingly rare this close to Shoreditch.
