About The Queen's Head
A small community local tucked away on a quiet residential street off Commercial Road near Limehouse Basin, kept trading in recent years through the efforts of its own regulars.
Set back from the main roads on the residential Flamborough Street, close to Limehouse Basin and the DLR station, the Queen's Head is the kind of unassuming corner local that rarely appears in guidebooks despite serving its immediate streets for generations. Like a number of small London pubs squeezed by rising costs and changing drinking habits, it has at points faced real threat of closure, and has stayed open in large part because of the loyalty of a small, committed base of regulars who use it as their genuine living-room local rather than an occasional destination. It keeps a straightforward, traditional format, with none of the redevelopment glamour of Narrow Street's riverside pubs a few minutes' walk away, and its survival is a reminder of how much of Limehouse's older residential character persists just off the main roads that most visitors stick to.
