About The Salisbury Hotel
A Grade II*-listed Victorian hotel-pub on Green Lanes, opened in 1899 by the developer John C. Hill and now run independently by Salisbury Bars Hospitality Ltd after previous operator Antic London collapsed into administration in July 2024.
The Salisbury opened in March 1899, built by the same self-made developer, John Cathles Hill, responsible for The Queens in Crouch End. It combined hotel, restaurant and public house functions under one Victorian Renaissance-style roof, with shaped gables, ogee domed cupolas, and a Saloon Bar dome-light by Cakebread & Robey depicting cupids and swans in expensive English glass. The billiard room was fitted out by the prestigious table-makers Burroughes and Watts, and the building fell into serious disrepair through the late 20th century before restoration work began in 2003. It later became one of the flagship sites in Antic London's estate, known for its bare-boards, market-hall aesthetic, before Antic's UK pub portfolio collapsed into administration in July 2024; the Grade II*-listed building has since reopened under Salisbury Bars Hospitality Ltd.
