About Ye Olde Watling

Rebuilt in 1668 by Sir Christopher Wren, reputedly to lodge the workers building St Paul's Cathedral nearby.

Ye Olde Watling stands on Watling Street, a route that dates to Roman London, and the current timber-framed building went up in 1668 under Sir Christopher Wren — built, according to local tradition, to house the craftsmen working on the reconstruction of St Paul's Cathedral just up the road. Some accounts hold the plans for the cathedral were drawn up in what is now the pub's upstairs dining room.

On tap

Nicholson's cask ales in a timber-framed, low-beamed bar.

Food

A gastropub-leaning menu, popular with the St Paul's lunch trade.
