About The Angel Oak

A gastropub directly opposite Peckham Rye Park, relaunched under the name Angel Oak after a stylish renovation of the long-standing pub formerly known as The Rye.

For years known simply as the Rye, this pub facing Peckham Rye Park and Common was relaunched as the Angel Oak after a full renovation, taking its new name from the ancient oak tree on the Rye itself. It's run by Metropolitan Pub Company, a small operator with a handful of similar dining pubs across South London, including the nearby Victoria Inn. The big draw remains the garden, one of the largest attached to any pub in the area, which backs almost onto the park and fills quickly with families and dog walkers whenever the weather turns good, alongside a kitchen serving a fairly ambitious gastropub menu.
