About John the Unicorn
A Rye Lane pub taken over in 2023 by Gosnells, the Peckham-based mead and cider producer, showcasing its own drinks alongside DJ nights and craft beer.
John the Unicorn opened on Rye Lane in the mid-2010s as part of the wave of new bars along Peckham's main artery, and after passing through the hands of the Portobello Pub Company it was taken over in 2023 by Gosnells, the mead and cider maker founded locally by Tom Gosnell. That change has shaped the drinks list, which leans heavily on Gosnells' own mead and cider alongside a solid craft beer range, while the pub keeps its existing identity as a daytime café-by-day, DJ-nights-by-evening space rather than converting into a straightforward brewery tap.
