About The Chesham Arms

Closed in 2012 for a residential conversion, reopened in 2015 after a two-year legal fight won it Hackney’s first-ever Asset of Community Value listing — then voted the area’s best pub within six months.

The Chesham Arms closed in October 2012 after being sold to a developer with plans for residential conversion. A "Save The Chesham" campaign fought back, winning Hackney Council’s first-ever Asset of Community Value listing in October 2014, and a two-year legal battle eventually secured a lease that let the pub reopen in June 2015. Within six months, 1,600 CAMRA members voted it Best Pub in City & East London, and it went on to win East London CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2016 and Cider Pub of the Year in 2018.
