About The Cock Tavern
A pub trading since the 1650s, long home to the Howling Hops brewery in its cellar, and a double CAMRA award winner for its beer and cider range.
A pub has stood on this stretch of Mare Street since the 1650s, though the current building was put up by Truman’s Brewery in the 1930s. For years its cellar housed Howling Hops, the brewery that grew up alongside it, and the Cock Tavern picked up both East London CAMRA Pub of the Year and Cider Pub of the Year on the strength of the range that resulted. It is also, by local reputation, the proud owner of Hackney’s smallest pub garden.
On tap
Howling Hops on tap, plus around six real ciders.
Food
No kitchen to speak of; monthly cheese nights and live piano singalongs instead.
