About The Dolphin
A Grade II-listed pub built around 1850 with an interior CAMRA rates as nationally important — and a comeback story involving a community campaign, a revoked licence and a 2023 reopening.
Built around 1850 and Grade II listed in 2003, the Dolphin’s interior is rated by CAMRA as of outstanding national historic importance, which makes its recent history all the more dramatic. A 2013 "Save the Dolphin" campaign against crime around the pub drew support from Caroline Flack and Michael Fassbender; its licence was later revoked and restored, and it closed altogether in 2021 after a serious assault on the premises. It reopened in June 2023 with earlier closing hours, trading again as a late-license local inside one of Hackney’s finest surviving Victorian pub interiors.
