About Nag's Head

A large, independently operated corner pub on Wood Green High Road, which has traded over the years as the Goose and the Goose & Granite before reverting to its historic Nag's Head name.

The pub's history over the past three decades is a small case study in chain-pub rebranding: what traded for years as the Nag's Head became the Goose, then the Goose & Granite, before a February 2018 refurbishment saw it reopen under its older, better-known Nag's Head name. The freehold sits with Stonegate, but the pub is operated independently by a leaseholder, and it is still informally known to some locals by an earlier tenant's name. It's a big, high-visibility corner site right by Wood Green's main shopping strip, running live sport and occasional live music alongside its regular trade, and functions as one of the busier wet-led pubs on the high road rather than a food destination.
