About The Shawl
An independent Irish pub occupying a converted 19th-century Methodist chapel on Harlesden High Street, trading under the name since 1996.
The Shawl is one of Harlesden's more unusual conversions: the building started life as a Methodist chapel, and its current life as a pub dates only to 1996, making it a relative newcomer by the standards of a trade that measures pubs in centuries. Inside it keeps to a single, unfussy room, the kind of proper locals' boozer that has become harder to find on a high street increasingly given over to fast food and phone shops. It serves Harlesden's Irish community first and foremost, with GAA and football on the screens and a regulars' crowd that has barely changed in years, and its chapel origins are still legible in the shape of the building even if little of the original interior survives.
On tap
Guinness and standard keg lagers, plus a well-used optics shelf
