About Simon the Tanner
A Grade II-listed independent free house on Long Lane, popular for its beer garden, cask ale and regular DJ nights.
Named for the patron saint of tanners — a nod to Bermondsey's leather-working past — Simon the Tanner is a listed Victorian corner pub that has stayed resolutely independent while the streets around it filled with newer bars. It draws a young, mixed crowd of locals and Bermondsey Street regulars for its decent cask ale selection, a garden that gets busy the moment the sun is out, and a run of DJ nights and quiz evenings that keep the room lively midweek as well as at weekends. It sits just far enough from the main Bermondsey Street strip to still feel like a proper local rather than a destination bar.
