About The Jackalope
A Grade II-listed mews pub, formerly the Dover Castle, whose largely intact Victorian interior is rated of special national historic interest.
Tucked into a cobbled mews behind Marylebone High Street, The Jackalope is one of only two mews pubs left in Marylebone and was long known as the Dover Castle, a name still etched in the frosted glass of two windows. The two-storey building is Grade II listed and CAMRA gives its interior one star as a pub of special national historic interest: etched-glass double doors still read 'Bottle Entrance' and 'Retail Entrance', a Victorian display case remains on one wall, and mirrors set into the dividing beam once let coachmen see when their passengers were ready to leave. Maurice Gorham, in his 1949 book Back to the Local, called it the mews pub par excellence, and for years it was known as 'Mooney's' after its landlady. It took its present name in 2018 when the team behind the Euston Tap took over; the pub gives its founding date as 1777, though the listed building itself dates from the early to mid nineteenth century.
On tap
Up to four cask ales alongside twelve to fourteen keg beers, with a changing craft-led list.
Food
A downstairs kitchen serves Xiao Mian, Chongqing-style noodles, from Tuesday to Saturday.
