About The Queens
A Grade II*-listed former hotel turned grand suburban pub, built at the turn of the 20th century and now run by the Brunning & Price gastropub group.
Built as The Queen's Hotel between 1899 and 1901 by the self-made builder-developer John Cathles Hill at the head of his own Broadway Parade development, the pub is considered by the Pevsner architectural guides to be one of suburban London's outstanding grand pubs. Its Art Nouveau stained glass, supplied by the decorative firm Cakebread Robey, survives intact, and the building holds Grade II* listed status. It sits close to the site of the old Queen's Opera House, destroyed in the Blitz, and Brunning & Price has leased the building since 2020, running it as one of its polished, book-lined gastropubs. Its long folk and acoustic music nights have made it a fixture of the Crouch End gig circuit.
