About Three Compasses
A Victorian coaching inn designed by architect John Farrer, billed as Hornsey's oldest public house, restored in 2004 and refurbished again by its current operator Pubs Next Door.
Three Compasses was built in 1896 to a design by the architect John Farrer, and its claim to being Hornsey's oldest public house is one of the few pieces of hard heritage left on a high street that has otherwise been heavily rebuilt. The building underwent a comprehensive restoration in 2004 under previous ownership, and a further substantial refurbishment when it reopened under Pubs Next Door's management. It now runs as a straightforward sports and Sunday roast pub, leaning on screens for live football and rugby alongside its roast lunches, rather than trading heavily on its Victorian pedigree. It sits a short walk from the Great Northern Railway Tavern, making up one half of Hornsey's small high-street pub scene.
