About The Wells Tavern
An elegant pub-restaurant on Well Walk, the street that recalls the medicinal springs that made Hampstead famous in the eighteenth century.
The name of both street and pub recalls the chalybeate (iron-rich) wells that turned Hampstead into a fashionable spa town during the eighteenth century, when London's well-to-do came to 'take the waters'. The current building is a late-Victorian rebuild on an older site, now Grade II listed. Since 2022 the freehold has belonged to Simon Bridbury Developments, but day-to-day running is in the hands of an independent operator who has turned it into one of the neighbourhood's most sought-after gastropubs, with a seasonal menu and a well-chosen wine list. Its terrace on Well Walk, alongside the surrounding Georgian houses, is perfect for eating outdoors on sunny days.
On tap
A selection of wines by the glass, cocktails and British craft-beer casks.
Food
Seasonal gastropub cooking, with a menu that changes frequently and a good welcome for diners with dogs.
